Moving to the US, I never did thought I’d be able to continue Odissi but fortunately I found Nrityasadhana dance academy and Guru Suchilagna Panigrahi. She is patient and dedicated, and at no point in the learning process will a student feel inadequate and helpless. She connects well with her students, bringing out the best in them.

I’ve been learning Odissi dance at Nrityasadhana and I have definitely learned a lot. My dance teacher made learning dance fun and I enjoy dancing with my friends. Working on a dance and seeing the outcome in the performance makes everything worth it in the end!

When I decided to resume learning Odissi here in USA back in 2018, I was not sure how it would be pursing Odissi at such a later stage in life, how far would I go in this journey etc. Though my Guru my go to person, but again I was skeptical as she is younger than me and the typical ‘Guru Sishya Parampara’ in a typical Odissi journey was quite not fitting in. It started with a big group, then shifted to a smaller group and then eventually  the one-on-one class, what  a journey, han! Now how much I have learnt or how well a dance or how much justice I give to your effort, that’s for you to validate ! But today after 7 years of learning from my Teacher Suchilagna Panigrahi , I can say it whole heartedly that I am glad that I made that decision. My Guru’s sincerity is my reason to do better, the trust I see in her eye is the reason I practice again and again. She always amaze me how swiftly she change her role amongst a teacher, a friend and  a sister with me!  I thoroughly enjoy this journey, it keeps me creatively active and challenged. Thank you Suchi for having that confidence on me, thank you  for giving me your time and God willing,  I am looking forward to a long lasting association with you.

Learning dance at Nrityasadhana has been an incredibly enriching experience. The training is both disciplined and deeply rooted in tradition, which has helped me grow not just as a dancer, but also as an individual. Your teaching style is patient, clear, and always encouraging, making each class both challenging and rewarding. I’m truly grateful to be a part of this organization and to learn from such a dedicated teacher.

From the age of six, I have been on a journey back to my cultural roots through the art of Odissi, under the loving guidance of my mentor, Suchi Aunty, at Nritya Sadhana. What began as a dance education has blossomed into a deep, lifelong passion—one that not only lets me explore the beauty of Lord Jagannātha’s universe, but also anchors me ever more firmly in my heritage. Suchi Aunty has been much more than a teacher: she is a friend, a coach, and a constant source of inspiration. From the subtlest mudrā (hand gestures) to the most nuanced expressions, she has patiently worked with me, shaping and refining every element of my performance. Under her mentorship, I’ve grown not only as a dancer, but as an artist. At the Institute’s Nritya Sadhana, I have found a second family—fellow dancers of all ages who share my devotion. Together we’ve performed on stages across the United States and India, each opportunity deepening my appreciation for Odissi’s timeless grace. I am profoundly grateful for this journey: for the chance to learn, to grow, and to connect ever more deeply with my roots through dance. It is my hope that everyone, in some way, finds such a bridge to their own heritage—and in doing so, discovers both joy and belonging.
